This book has fantastic potential. I think the storyline is incredible, and it's a new idea, but based upon solid evidence of real abilities. The characters are believable, although they suffer a bit from a lack of underdevelopment. I think this book tries to capture a few too many ideas for a novella, and I think it would be better served if it were expanded into a full-length novel. There are many plot lines tackled, along with characters introduced that the reader may have a difficult time grasping all of the nuanced details. The prologue is unnecessary, as it gives the entire plot away. It leaves nothing to the imagination. I know the author is not from the US, but formatting is a major issue for an American reader. There are many run-in sentences and extremely lomg paragraphs with multiple speakers that US authors and readers typically don't use or interact as well with, so an international editor might be helpful. However, that said, I believe the rating is fair, as the writing itself is very good, the storyline is excellent, and I believe this is a very good book overall. I'm very interested in reading more from this author!Product details

After Dark The Story Begins Urban Fantasy Anthologies Book 1 edition by Mark Lee Ryan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This story has an interesting premise in that a Jeremy learns that he has the power both to summon and be summoned in the dream world where he can influence events. It's I nice little book that leaves the reader wanting more.
You'll have to follow this one closely but worth your time. A unique and quirky read. Written in Australian English that makes me wonder why the Chicago setting.
I haven't read a lot of sci-fi since Isaac Asimov but I'm glad I found this short read by Mark Lee Ryan.
I found this 'adult Harry Potter' adventure fast paced, well written and easily consumed in one sitting.
Bring on book 2 Mark - we're waiting.
Mark Lee Ryan has taken a nice concept, being able to enter others dreams, and neatly presented it in a fashion that both feels very realistic and is fun to read. While short, the characters are nicely presented and the story holds up well. I definitely enjoyed this, and am looking forward to reading the next one.
An imaginative tale of a young man with a unique talent. Jeremy is able to enter his dream life and communicate with people just by thinking about them. He manages to sort out his and other people's problems and even solve a long standing crime mystery in this way.
This is a good book for those looking for a quick read and want to be entertained throughout. A charming and uplifting story.
The story of Jeremy Patten's ability to enter the dreams of others reminded me of "Early Edition" where a reporter receives a newspaper a day before events and he tries to prevent tragedies from happening. Jeremy becomes a consciousness for some people. I guess the willingness of people to greet him in their minds is because they realize "it's only a dream" and nothing wrong can happen to them in dreamland. I like the idea of being able to leave a token with the dreamers. It helps that Jeremy is a lawyer and is aware of how to provoke a person to make a self confession.
After Dark The Story Begins engages the reader immediately. The Preface is welcomed in establishing a baseline knowledge of the main character, Jeremy. The author also uses the preface to sketch out the infrastructure of the book to allow the reader to progress. By initially eliminating barriers for the reader, the connection with Jeremy and his interactions are immediate and creates an environment where I couldn’t be anywhere else but, solving the mystery alongside him. There were many aha’s and ruminations while reading. If you like quirky mystery’s, After Dark is for you to figure out the pieces along the way and have a complete puzzle at the end. After Dark is a lighthearted, page turner mystery. I Highly Recommend. -Tex (I received a free copy of the book and voluntarily decided to review it) After Dark The Story Begins (Urban Fantasy Anthologies Book 1)
